Combat Simulations

An award winning producer of game-based modeling, simulation, and training (MST) products.

Our 2nd generation simulation engine (SE II) provides a base for new simulations with modern graphics, extensive environmental factors, and greater elements of random placement, inclusion, and triggers.

The new game engine supports a 3D globe, which allows visualization from the seabed to outer space. Anything, anywhere, on the planet.   Staying with one architecture for simulations, we have created an engine above and beyond the naval sim.  Satellites and communications are a big part of naval operations now and new titles will include global scale operations like nothing before.

SE II includes more than 20 licensed, tailored “serious game” capability enhancements and modifications.  Core discriminating, value-added capabilities of this unique framework include:

  • Advanced physics-based simulation engine;
  • Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS)/High Level Architecture (HLA) nework simulation protocol;
  • Drag-and-drop scenario generation;
  • Modifiable database external to the source code;
  • Standard game multi-player mode; and
  • Unique “multi-station” capability that enables team training.

NEAR Impact is our first release of an arcade genre game.  It demonstrates some of the capabilities of Sonalysts’ new game engine, SE II.  Modular, upgradeable, and with improved graphics, SE II aims to take Sonalysts simulations to a new global level.

Sonalysts has been developing Real Time Strategy (RTS) combat simulation games for the commercial market since the mid-1990’s as part of our diversification plan following the end of the cold war.  To date, we have developed three combat simulation games teamed with computer game publisher Electronic Arts (EA), and one under the Sonalysts Combat Simulations label.  These titles have received a variety of awards from “Best Combat Sim of the Year” to the Guiness Book of World Records as the “most intellectually challenging game”, and Sub Command’s “Best Maritime Sim”.

Dangerous Waters™

Dangerous Waters is the first title of its kind, allowing you total control over multiple air, surface, and submarine platforms in a modern-day naval environment! The game allows you to focus your attention and to take direct control of individual crew stations and also plan and execute combined arms naval strategies from a top-down 'Commander's Eye' perspective.

Sub Command™

Sub Command continues the legacy of 688(I) Hunter/Killer and Jane's Fleet Command™.   The game provides multi-play enthusiasts with the long awaited opportunity to hone their skills against on-line opponents commanding state of the art submarines of two long-time adversaries. Sonalysts' experienced game designers included optional auto crewman, voice commands and simple menus to create a game that is accessible to the novice player while still providing advanced players with a high fidelity simulation and game challenges they have come to expect from Sonalysts. Developed in cooperation with the U.S. Naval Institute, Sub Command features an extensive database of specifications and photographs of hundreds of ships, submarines, aircraft, and weapons used by sixteen of the world's navies, and depicted in 3D form by Sonalysts' talented animators.

Fleet Command

Realism and accuracy are the hallmarks of the Jane's® series of combat simulation games. Having completed work on 688(I) Hunter/Killer, Sonalysts was given a new mission—to create a military simulation game integrating global conflict and exclusive real-time strategy capability as the commander of entire fleets of naval vessels. No detail was too minute for this project and accuracy was paramount. Sonalysts, having the necessary subject matter experts and technology, accepted its orders without hesitation.

688(I) Hunter/Killer

With 688(I) Hunter/Killer, Sonalysts captured not only the true essence of submarine warfare but also PC Games magazine's "Best Combat Simulation" citation for 1997 and recognition in the 1999 and 2000 Guiness Book of Records for "Most Intellectually Challenging Computer Game." Electronic Arts approached Sonalysts for an authentic submarine simulation, never imagining that the game would be so close to reality that it was to become part of the training regimen for both the U.S. and Royal navies.

688(I) Hunter/Killer was developed by Sonalysts and distributed under the Jane's series of combat simulation games for Electronic Arts. Asked to provide an engaging recreational military simulation, Sonalysts furnished not only the technology and creativity necessary for this type of game but also first hand knowledge of naval operations and submarine resources. With 107 former naval officers and 25 years of defense simulation experience, Sonalysts was able to assemble a stellar project team.
