WATERFORD, CT. -- Sonalysts, Inc., an employee-owned, national defense contractor, announced it won a prime contract from the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB) in Dayton, OH to provide a high-fidelity, game-based Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs) trainer for fifth-generation fighter operations.
The Fifth-Generation Affordable TTP simulator (FATsim) award has a total value of $2.5 million over a 2 year period of performance. Sonalysts will team with Aptima, Inc., a leader in human-centered engineering and human performance metrics; Rickard Consulting Group, Inc., experts in fighter training and operations; and Lumir Research Institute, an industry leader in the areas of training effectiveness, evaluations, performance measurement, and standards definition.
The FATsim team will provide AFRL with four simulators capable of connecting to a Live-Virtual-Constructive distributed environment. FATsim is a cost-effective training system using commercial-off-the-shelf hardware and software, scenario authoring, skills tracking/performance measures for individuals and teams. It will employ Sonalysts’ new simulation engine architecture to provide high-fidelity interaction and physics-based threats. This system will be evaluated by fighter operations personnel for its training effectiveness and accessibility. Because of the FATsim system’s flexibility, it has potential applicability to other programs, such as remotely-piloted aircraft and other unmanned systems.
“This contract extends Sonalysts’ 40-year tradition of working with the DoD to ensure our warfighting advantage is maintained. We look forward to applying our training expertise to help pilots and crews improve their knowledge and skills,” said Milt Stretton, President of Sonalysts.
Sonalysts is a recognized leader in training and human systems integration. Many of the company’s software engineers who specialize in creating, testing, and implementing advanced training software also help develop instructional products. Sonalysts is known for its full range of content development, from text- and classroom-based instruction, to computer-based training media, and simulation-based training systems. Sonalysts’ headquarters is in Waterford, CT. An additional 20 offices are located in 13 states including an office adjacent to WPAFB in Fairborn, OH.
